Electric and energy bills are rising to expensive figures and many people are trying to find ways to cut on these cuts without sacrificing much from their current lifestyle. Here are some steps and tips you can take fairly easily that will help you with this current problem:

save energy

Turn off your lights
This is one the more common sense solutions to saving on your electric bill and is especially important when you have incandescent light bulbs. Each 60 watt bulb in your house uses about 0.060 kWh. This can add up especially when they are on in unused rooms, closets, and bathrooms.

Switching bulbs to more efficient ones
As mentioned, incandescent bulbs are fairly inefficient. Compact fluorescents are a good alternative as they are much more efficient. The best (but priciest) light bulb solution would be LED lights. Although more expensive, it is an investment where you can see a return on your electric bill.

Unplug items you rarely use
Do you have TVs in guest rooms you hardly use? Unplug them! TVs and other stereo equipment keep drawing power when they’re plugged to the outlet despite being turned off. This is a very simple solution that requires a very small time commitment (plugging and unplugging the equipment) and can pay dividends in terms of saved dollars.

Use Air Conditioning sparingly
Your air conditioner can use as much energy as the rest of the electronics in your house put together when it is being run throughout the day on a hot, summer day. There are a few alternatives to cut back on its usage. These include setting ice in front of a fan, turning off heat-generating electronics, and generating a constant airflow into your home at night when the air is cooler.

Find out what is using energy
Using a Killawatt or a similar device, you can determine how much power each device is drawing. This will give you insight as to which piece of equipment you should focus on avoiding or perhaps replacing.
